A tumor marker is anything present in or produced by cancer cells or other cells of the body in response to cancer or certain benign (noncancerous) conditions that provides information about a cancer, such as how aggressive it is, what kind of treatment it may respond to, or whether it is responding to treatment. Tumor marker tests that use cells from a tumor may help diagnose cancer.
Tumor marker tests are not perfect. They are often not specific for cancer and may not be sensitive enough to pick up a cancer recurrence.
The presence of tumor markers alone is not enough to diagnose cancer. You will probably need other tests to learn more about a possible cancer or recurrence.
Yet if you dont want to spend too much on Health Screening, you can start by doing this. Should your Tumor marker shoot up, then you are invited to investigate further.
