The most common allergies

Updated: Dec 28, 2021

Allergies are a condition in which the body's immune system overreacts to certain substances and triggers an allergic reaction.

We identify the 7 most common allergies in the following article.

1- Food Allergies

The top 1 is of course food. Food Allergy represents around 4 percent of adults and 5 percent of children in the World. A food allergy occurs when the body's immune system triggers an abnormal response to food. Up to 90% of food allergies are caused by eight type of foods. It includes Cow’s milk, Eggs, Fish, Shellfish, Wheat, Peanuts, Tree nuts and Soy.

2- Animal Allergies:

Then we have allergies triggered by animals such as Dogs or Cats. The dander from such animals contains oils that coat and protect their fur. These oils contain proteins that may cause allergic reactions to human. Cat dander is a common trigger for allergic asthma.

If you have a cat, note that carpets, drapes, bedding, and pillows can trap allergens such as pet hair which can cause asthma and allergy flare-ups.

3- Pollen Allergies:

Then another common allergy is allergies to pollen. Pollens from trees, plants, and grasses cause seasonal allergies like hay fever. Again, note that carpets, drapes, bedding, and pillows can trap allergens such as pollen and cause reactions even when a person is indoors. Allergies to Pollen is a seasonal allergy and occur often during spring!

4- Mold Allergies:

Then we have mold allergies. Inhaled mold spores can irritate the nose and throat and cause allergic reactions similar to hay fever. 10 percent of the population are allergic to mold, and for about half of them, the allergy may result in an actual illness.

5- Dust mite Allergies:

Allergies to dust mites. Dust mites feed on bacteria and dead skin cells found in dust, and their waste contains proteins that can cause allergic reactions. It is estimated that 10 percent of the world's population is allergic to dust mites, but up to 90 percent of people with allergic asthma in some regions are sensitized to them. Once more Bedding, furniture, and even stuffed animals are often a breeding ground for dust mites. You should wash regularly all your carpets and beddings should you have some in your place.

It can trigger headaches and hay fever as well.

6- Medication Allergies:

Allergies to medications. Certain medications may cause allergic reactions. For instance Penicillin is a common medication that can cause allergic reactions in some people. Approximately 10% of all people patients report having an allergic reaction to a penicillin but <1% of the whole population is truly allergic.

7- Latex Allergies :

Latex allergy is present in 1%–5% of the general population, with an increased prevalence in atopic individuals. Latex allergy is increased in populations with chronic occupational exposure to latex. It is found in 8%–12% of healthcare workers and in at least 10% of rubber industry workers.

Overall there are many type of Allergies.

But people can also be allergic to Perfumes and household chemicals, Cockroaches and even light. Should you feel feverish or tired when you are expose to something specific, you should go and test your self in a medical center to ensure that you are not allergic to it.
